First FaceTime
Nola's first Facetime experience today involved a staring contest. A staring contest? Is that ridiculous to anyone else?
Sarek's Birth Story--Told on his 10th Birthday
his
time ten years ago, I was 72 hours into the labor that would eventually
make me a mother. My labor was hell on wheels. Nothing went right. I
lost count of the # of times I got therapeutic rest and went home. I
got a C/S after five days of labor, one of those days with pain meds. I
never got past 6 cm; when they called it, I'd swollen down to 4cm. My
epidural wore off during the C/S, the panicked anesthesiologist wanted
an IV in my neck, and in the trauma of feeling
the cavernous hole that was my abdomen, I got Ketamine, which sent me
on the most horrific trip of my life. Not pretty. But his heart rate
did not drop once, and he was born wide eyed, alert, and calm as a
glassy lake at sunrise. He did not make a peep. He would never be that
still, quiet, or late again! It took all that to have him, but it was
worth every minute. Because I was so loved, respected, held, and
involved in the timing of decisions, I was able to move past the
disappointment of having a C/S and on to the bigger dance of falling in
love with my son. I have to admit that I could not first assist at a
C/S or work with that anesthesiologist for nearly a year after I
returned to work. Nineteen months later, I VBAC'ed after an 8 hr
labor, went from 6-10 cm in 45 min and pushed Nola out in 30 min. #occiputposterior. #midwifecurse. #homebirthtransfer. #Informedconsent #shareddecisionmaking
