Miller Genuine (Draft)

Pictures and video of our families together in November.

A Simple Thanksgiving

We took advantage of fine SF weather and kicked Thanksgiving off with a visit to the Discovery Museum in Fort Mason. We then watched the sunset across SF Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge from Chrissy Field . It was a perfectly spontaneous day. Very rare for us to have a day ramble on like that with everyone in synchronized good moods! Sarek loved watching a big barge from China sail under the GG Bridge. Although it meant missing our beloved friends in Oregon this year, simplicity was the best holiday choice we have made in awhile.

En Garde!

Sarek engages in his first sword fight with our neighbor, Ben. Ben said he was a formidable opponent.

The New Addition

Nola is thankful to have her first tooth come in. Right in front, on the bottom.

Choo Choo Neighbors

In his quest for train Nirvana, Sarek discovers the remote control set that comes with 4 kids. Jonas, Jasper, Cala, and another Nola.

Hair

Gorilla isn't the only one having a bad hair day around here! Nola is a victim to her parents' rusty hair grooming skills. We often forget to take out hairbands and clips. Sarek is in on it, too, and looks a lot like a Samoan with his frontal ponytail.

Chapathi

For all of the Evans who assume I don't cook....evidence that I really do, just not when you're in town! This was Sunday night dinner: chapathi, carrots and sweet potato, dahl, and palak saag....unprocessed Indian food, no gadgets, no recipe, no microwave, no nothin'. Sarek also got his first lesson in rolling out ("woojing") the chapathi for pan frying. Woojing was one of my first kitchen chores as a kid.

Posers

Best candids of the week! Photos taken with actual camera and not an IPhone. Gads!

Peeling Out

Sarek asked to peel the tangerine all by himself, and it was no empty boast.

Elmo on the Line?

Chris pulls a fast one on Sarek. Should he be the one to break the news about Santa? Totally unrelated but....What kind of animal is Elmo? Big Bird is a bird, Kermit the Frog a frog, Miss Piggy a pig, Cookie Monster a monster....but whiny, tiny Elmo??

Goodbye, Boo Hoos, and Thank you!

Grandma Tarah left this morning after a lovely visit with her San Francisco brood. We were sad to see her go! Thank you, Grandma, for babysitting, breakfast feasts, ponytails and hair clips, Nola, birthday pumpkin cheesecake, chicken curry during our quarantine, adventures on the bus after the skateboarding park, apple pie, and your boundless energy keeping up with our kiddies.

Yoohoo! It's the Oakland Zoo!

Finally out of quarantine, we went to the Oakland Zoo in sunny East Bay with Grandma Tarah, who was here for a 10 day visit. Sarek enjoyed the mini amusement park rides the most. Grandma Tarah was impressed that the zoo didn't smell like....zoo. Deena avoided snake exhibits and looked for places to nurse Nola, while Brett actually paid attention to the animals. Nola slept most of the zoo away nestled in her womb-like Ergo. We went to Vik's Chaat in Berkeley afterwards for lunch. The kids fell asleep in the car on the Bay Bridge. All in all, a very Bay Area day

Took Sarek to the beach so he could run around without getting anyone else sick.

Quarantine

Grandma Tarah makes her blog debut by coming to the rescue. Our clan was stuck inside while Sarek recovers from swine flu, and GT made us a wonderful chicken curry. We hope to recover soon so we can spend some  quality time together.

Happy Birthday, Swine Flu

Wasn't the happiest of birthdays for Deena, but we stuck it out together. Deena was told she needed followup surgery on her knee. When does she have the time to spend three weeks on crutches? Sarek got diagnosed with swine flu. He has been crankier and lethargic once a day, but most of the time he is still his bouncing baby boy self. Anyway were all kinda homebound till the H1N1 blows over, so it won't be a banner week for posts. Which is too bad (understatement) cause Grandma Tarah is in town.

Halloween Highlights 2009

Halloween weekend started off with a parade through the neighborhood on Friday and ended with a frenzy of trick or treating at Belvedere St. in Cole Valley. Three to four city blocks are cordoned off to traffic. It's total chaos, cuteness, and sugar high all rolled into one! I never would have thought that Halloween is more fun as a parent than it was as a young adult.

Dancing Cookie Monster

AKA "How Cookie Monster Got His Groove Back" Who knew Cookie Monster had moves?? The house hosting the music has a tradition of placing people dancing in animal costumes in the front windows.

This Can Only End Badly
