Sunday Night Bliss

It's Sunday night and we're about to dive into another work week. Long days, short years. But instead of the usual ramp up, I feel so lucky and grateful tonight. A family friend from high school lost her husband (40 years old!) last week to a painful, stubborn cancer. She is now a widow with two young kids. My lovely husband and--seriously--the best father I've ever met--just put Sarek to bed. This is after rescuing our friend, Perry, who lost his car key in the sand tonight after a surf session. Nola fell asleep in my arms to her mother humming "You Are My Sunshine" and the sound of rainforest from the music box. We gave each other the gifts of sleep today--Brett slept in until 10:30 am. I got in a good 2+ hour nap. We did a few house projects. Sarek made his Mama "dinner" tonight, place setting, bib and all :) I gave my sweet Nola a bath. I already miss her post-bath smell and the soft plumpness she will soon leave behind as she grows into a little girl. We have cooked 5 out of 7 nights (like, really cooked, not just opened cans) this week. Brett made a Turkish dinner tonight. I made quiche and cod last night. We're proud that we're parenting the old-fashioned way. The more I talk to others, the more I realize how rare it is that I can truly say we're both carrying our weight in this grand experiment. Despite the fast pace of our lives and the fact that things are constantly changing around here, some sort of rhythm has emerged. It's delicious, secure, and really special. I will make a point to remember this every day next week. And the next. And the next... Signing off--Evareddy Mama
