Bottom's Up!

We had our neighbor, Sparrow, for the day and through bedtime. Pretty much counts as a slumber party.

"I Do" the Cape

Sarek and I had our first mommy-son vacation a few weekends ago. The occasion was a wedding of Scott, a dear friend from Boston. We saw another dear friend, Katie, and new baby, Saoirse, and spend a few nights in Hingham. She also got married in that house. Saoirse is beautiful, Sarek fell in love with her, and she nailed down mixing Irish and Puerto Rican. I almost want to have another baby. That's how amazing Sarek was with a newborn. But I'll let my younger friends do the birthing and parenting...while I get to play Aunty to their babies. Sarek did great at the wedding. He managed to sit still and quiet for the ceremony and charmed the crowd with his dancing and boundless energy during the reception. He was even up for learning the electric slide. The bride was GORGEOUS and glowing. Scott had a large say in the wedding details. Rare for a groom! Hemingway and e.e. cummings centerpieces (old books stacked and tied up in swine), typewriters, and bookmarks for wedding favors. Sarek's favorite part was staying up late. He valiently suffered through "all the kissing." During the down time, we went on a Hyannis Duckmobile--a combo bus/boat.

SF Jazz Kids Day

I finally had a mid-week day off, so the kids played hooky from preschool and we went to SF Jazz Kids Day at Stern Grove Park. Stern Grove is a gorgeous place with a stage set in an amphitheater of eucalyptus, redwood, and cherry trees. It is the location of many free, summer music concerts. Concerts include Anita Baker, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, and other past greats like Lucinda Williams and Bonnie Raitt. The SF Symphony and SF Opera perform for free, also. Another reason to bear the horrible property taxes we pay here! The kids made tambourines, learned how to second line, "played" the stand up bass, and learned about the components of music. In case you didn't know, they are: rhythm, melody, and harmony. sarek made up the word "harmelody" today. we also found out that nola can carry a tune....good pitch.

Flag Men

Sarek and I went up to Twin Peaks early this morning help set up the giant pink flag for Gay Pride weekend. The flag can be seen all the way from Bernal Heights and even Oakland.

Sarek was psyched to hammer it in and do some construction. He also learned about volunteering and people joining together to help out.  This first picture made the major news site in SF, SFGate.com.
