Lauper!

Kids recently programmed an "I heart 80s" radio station into the car audio system. At first, I assumed it was for my post-call listening pleasure. Ha. Turns out they recognize many of the songs from "Sing," an animation movie version of "American Idol". A Cyndi Lauper song recently came on, which got me talking about how Lauper was both a perfect example AND an aberration of her time. She actually has a great ear. There's complicated syncopated moments in some of her songs. Flew right over the kids' heads. To them, the songs are just animated pig and gorilla signature songs. Suffice it to say, there was an escalation of sorts about "who sung it better". It ended with me having the last say in the form of, "HEY! Yo. No one does Lauper better than Lauper!!!!" Yikes. Don't mess with my assessment of the 80s.
